"The Shantee from Columbus, Ohio, is without a doubt the most promising band that I've seen emerge in quite some time. The music that this band produces carries a certain kind of magic that leaves you with the hair standing up on your arms. Its release 'Hydration' is a masterpiece."

"A breath of fresh air"
With high-energy live performances, combined with finely crafted studio albums, The Shantee, hailing from Columbus, OH, has become one of the Midwest's fastest growing bands. Their original sounds have continually been gaining attention and acclaim from music lovers of all types. The Shantee's music combines youthful, foot-stomping energy with lasting arrangements and thought-provoking lyrics. The band lays down a serious groove that has a real pop sensibility, which can be seen on all three of their studio albums: Lands Unknown (1998), Hydration (2001), and their newest release Four Now...(2003). These efforts capture the energy and appeal of the Shantee's live performances, while also displaying the evolution of their unique sound. The band's website (www.theshantee.com) enjoys consistent attention from their devoted audience, and another site (www.shanteeclan.com), started by fans of the group, adds to the growing presence of the band on the web. Even without the support of a record label or corporate distribution, The Shantee sees its album and merchandise sales increasing steadily, and buzz about the group continues to spread outward from their Midwestern roots.
The musical sounds contributed by the five members continue to develop, evolve and add to the dynamic musical mixture. Lead vocalist Mike Perkins has a soaring voice unlike any in the industry. His fresh, catchy melodies, complimented by playful, yet strong guitar lead the group on unpredictable journeys. Lead guitarist Matt Morton crafts signature leads that kick the band into high gear, while adding a distinctive vocal style to the mix. Keyboardist and newcomer Robb McCormick has taken the group's songs into entirely different directions with his versatile playing and soulful style. The rhythm section, anchored my bassist Ward Scott and drummer Shane Frye use precision to provide an upbeat springboard for the group, guiding the flow of a seamless musical package.
