Juan Alex Mateo was born February 8th 1983 in a small town called Hondo Valle, which is located in the west part of the Dominican Republic. Shortly after he was born, his mother decided to move to the big city, in hope she could provide a better future for her kids.
Ever since Alex was a little kid, he was drown to music, on his 10th birthday his mother got him a small keyboard, even thought they never had the finances to send Alex to get professional classes, he tried making beats out of his head, and started composing songs. When Alex turned 12, he moved to the city of Boston with his father, there he really started to expose his talent to small crowds.
In 1997 Alex meets the Puerto Rican native Jose Ortiz aka Cheo, who baptized him with the name Lexcano. These two immediately discovered that they had musical chemistry and decided to form the duo Cheo & Lex. In 2001 Lexcano decided to join the Army National Guard, for the first time since 1997 the duo was separated. Lexcano returned from Basic Combat Training, he reunited with Cheo and the two picked up where they left off.
In 2003 Cheo & Lex felt they were ready to reach for the sky, so they to put together some material, and dropped an underground mix-tape called Take One, even though it didn’t make it as far as they would’ve liked, the duo received great appreciation from the people that heard the album and the motivation to go after more grew bigger. Unfortunately that same year Lexcano had the call to duty, and took off to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. While he was in Cuba, Lex worked on his talent, he composed new songs, he wanted to make sure that he was going to be able to release another underground mix-tape as soon as he stepped back on the scene.
Lexcano took advantege of his free time in cuba to take classes and finish college. With the help of his partner and other fellow rappers like Noztra, DD, Hardcore, Medizina, Myztiko and others, they released another production while he was still in Cuba, the mix-tape was called La Cazeria, this time they had the chance to bring their music a step further. A lot of the rappers came from different locations like New York, New Jersey and Miami. Again people were showing a lot of satisfaction with the product, and Lexcano's inspiration and dedication to the music grew even more .
In 2004 Lex was once again gets the called to duty, this time to Iraq, yet another obstacle in Lexcano's music carrier. Given these circumstances Cheo & Lex decided to work on solo projects, until the situation permits them to work together again.
In 2005 Lexcano came back home, and immidiatly got back on the music. In a matter of of two months, he did three sold out shows, recorded for a major produciton called Unhered Talent, which is a copillation of the best local talent in Boston (Lexcano was hand picked to be in this record).
After nine year of hard work, Lexcano has finally found the opportunity to show his talent to the entratainment industries and be able to search for his dream. Thorught fierce, dedication and the passion he has for his music, is evident that the future has many things store for Lexcano.
