Funky Mustard lay's it on thicker , and juicier this time around with their sophomore effort "Alma del Fuego". Recorded @ "The Red Shack" in Houston Tx. with the Legendary "Rock Romano" . This Album was 6 months in the making . This is a whole new batch of rockin Texas style music straight from the melting pot of melting pot's, Houston Texas . Larry White comes out swinging this time , and add's Violins, Cello , Trumpet , and Flugelhorn to several of their new works of Art . Kevin Crenshaw on drums, and (new to the line up on this Cd , and the resident Bass player) Gardner Headrick on Bass bring it on to create yet another twist to this crazy mix they call Funky Mustard . Gardner brings a whole new twist to the rockin sound that Funky Mustard is known for . Gardner's presence on stage seem's to whip the whole crowd into a "Beat Frenzy" much like a Pearl Jam concert of old. Robert Taylor the resident Harmonica player in the band has certainly found a new nitch as a superb backing , and lead vocalist. His singing talents shine on such songs as Technicolor , Let it Crash , and Much to Close just to name a few . Robert's talent for singing in Harmonic tone , with Larry's , add a unique twist to the overall sound reminiscent of REM , and XTC . Roberts erie Harmonica lead on "Let it Crash" will send a shiver down your spine , and leave you craving more Mississippi Saxophone aka Harmonica. The one , and only Tim Glaze on Trumpet , and Flugelhorn have proven to be the Miles Davis/Freddie Hubbard twist that was needed to complete several of these songs . It's as if Miles himself were playing the muted horn on Jaco's Lament , a tribute to the late Jaco Pastorious . The Hubbard style trumpet on Alma del Fuego will prove to be his own "Tower of Power" tribute. Kristen Jensen on Violin has brought a little seasoning of her own to the title track "Alma del Fuego" . Melody Kelley a "Yamaha Performing Artist" can be heard on several tracks adding her own special flavor on Cello. Carlos Johnson add's a worldly flare to several of these new songs with his percussion skills on the Congas . No mistaking these guy's , and gal's for a full blown Rock Band , with a little something extra up their sleeve . There is no mistaking that Flying V Funky Mustard sound , but now it's got some new ingredients to tickle your taste bud's . This band has matured to an all new level , and have raised the bar on their style of Rock & Roll . Again breaching all genre's , and musical categories . Their truly is something for everybody on this fresh new Cd from H-town , coining the phrase "Thick and Juicy style" . Spread it on thick , and use it as a marinade . They even have a message for the President on this Cd titled "Much to Close" , as in much to close to home . Give a listen to this new style of Rock , and see why they are being called the "New Enchilada" .
all about the Mustard ... Funky Mustard that is. Bubblin' crude and pure rock that is steeped in the tradition that has your soul rockin', like the masters of rock . Much like the Rolling Stones, Grateful Dead, Jethro Tull, U2, and AC/DC. Rockin' and Rollin' on the cutting edge. But, I want to know if your gonna leave any Mustard in that jar? I dig the sounds boys, keep the fire burning. Please remember, I always like it when you go down to Nawlins, especially like back in '67.

I really dig Funky Mustard. Larry combines unique, modal chord patterns and hypnotic rhythms that pull you in and surround you. His songs tell big and little stories that are real life experiences . You can¹t help plugging into these emotional, musical poems . The mention of H.R. Puff-n-Stuff in the song Hemisfair recalls a happy , but scary encounter with the TV character from his childhood . Listening to the Mustard, you become infected in the same way, taken back to the same setting , the same wide-eyed state of mind. This music is a doorway into the magic. Spread it on thick.

Larry White is a prolific songwriter. Interesting lyrics and unusually thick chording makes some strangely wonderful music. The stories Larry tells in his songs frequently remind me of Dave Mathews in style. I was blown away by the bands maturity while attending the release of their new CD, "Alma del Fuego". The addition of Kristen Jensen on violin takes their music beyond Rock, more into a Cirque du Soleil thing with teeth. These guys have arrived, and right on time. I think in the not too distant future we'll be hearing other performers playing some of these Funky Mustard songs in their shows. Keep up the great work gang.
