SIRI
Multimedia Spectacular Concert in the Brazilian Instrumental Vanguard

Siri is Art, performance, installation, video, and music

A percussionist from Rio de Janeiro, graduated at Los Angeles Music Academy and at Sangeet Music School (USA), releases his first solo album and is recording his new DVD, which is expected to come out at the end of the year.

Siri started his professional career as a musician of the carioca blues band Big Allanbik, in which he performed a tour across the USA, and played among other nightclubs in the mythic Blue Note. During this tour they recorded the CD “Batuque and Blues “, considered by the specialized critics the best blues work created by a non American group. Back to Brazil, he had his talent recognized by Sivuca and the MPB-4. Before long, he came back to USA, where he graduated as a drummer, gave lessons of “batucada” and recorded the movie sound track “ Beethoven III “, by Universal.
He returned to Brazil to be a member of the group Bossa Cuca Nova, of Roberto Menescal, with whom had his passport stamped four times to Europe, once to Japan, Africa and several times to USA.
He had been nominated for this work to the Latin Grammy, with the CD “Brasilidade”. All the experiences he went through this period are in his opening CD, which holds his nickname SIRI .

On the stage the CD transforms itself into a wonderful multimedia spectacular.
A trip of effects, light and images with its own sound, richness of timbres and melodies. Siri takes the audience to a sonorous experience almost hypnotic. Sixty minutes you can hardly close your eyes.

The opening song “No Tranco” (jolt) has a Wolkswagen beetle engine recorded in a garage as a base to a trip, which mixes trombones and sounds of several parts of the car. A part of compilation Nu Brazil 2 (Union Square) and Brazilian Beats 6 (Mr. Bongo).

“N`Água” (In the water) was recorded in a tube, where liquid noises meet pots, platters and bottles sounds.

Siri makes contemporary music , mixing strings arrangements and trombones among other textures, regardless of any special title.

_” The big difference between what I recorded in the studio and the show is :
the arrangement is more organic, besides the show has the performance appeal ..I bring a Wolkswagen beetle, a tub, ropes, trombones, vibraphones and a mass of percussion instruments of all kinds, countries and origins ”, says Siri.

Siri is the vanguard of the brazilian instrumental music

CD

Contrary to what one normally expects from most instrumental brazilian cds, ”Siri” whose author and musician have the same name, is a great surprise that goes far beyond all formulas of the genere.
Being guided by na invisible line as in a movie track or, on a road where landscapes are passing by, the universe explored in ”Siri“, besides its vigorous rhytms and beautiful themes is before hand a universe of “sound textures“.
It´s character is essencially conceptual and stitched by a intelligent game of similarities and contrasts, these synergies create different athmosferes, unveiling a pictorial and sensorial music. Simple in its audacity, it is music where the notion of depth and perspective join the rhytm´s force. So swinging as melodical, expressive and sophisticated .

Musicians

The musician Siri, makes his solo debut after meeting Fernando Morello (Cd Musical Co- Producer) when his original ideas were totally fulfilled.
In addition to the special appearances of Marcos Suzano, Alessandra Belloni (Italian Singer and Tambourine player) Master Darcy of jongo, Carlos Trilha (Switchboards), Antonio Saraiva (trombone arrangements), Jota Moraes (vibraphone), the french musicians Nicolas Krassik (violin) and Marion del´8 (piano), Aramis Guimarães (trombones), Dener Campolina (contrabass), Rodrigo Sebastian and B.J. (Bass), Dona Sú (voice) and André Moreno, Dudu Fuentes, Fabão, Pepê, Christiano Galvão, Fred Castilho, Pedro Paiva, Pitito, Schmidt and Sidon Silva (Batuque),it was possible to construct over the last three years in a zealous and minimalist way the Siri sound complex.
CONCERT

“Siri “is a multimedia spectacular elaborated and produced in every single detail. It is art, performance, installation, video and specially music, of course!
As the main object of the scenery Siri puts a beetle with engine, sunroof, and other parts of the car. The trombones sounds come up and a musical trip get start by several elements.

Tubes, sounds made out of water, tambourines, berimbaus, violins, cellos, acustic contrabass, vibraphone and trombones, complete the atmosphere which take us to several dimensions.

Sensibility in the illumination, art video present in the music, “Siri “ transports the public to a trip of non stop sensations.
It´s character is universal, “Siri “is a work which you listen without interruption.
Pure inspiration. Life and Art.

MUSIC

Some unusual formations were used in the songs for these interesting “textures games“, as in the first track “No Tranco” (Jolted), where the engine and body of a volkswagen “beetle“ are the base of the percussion for a range of trombones which reminds of a horn blowing and several other urban sounds.
The amusing “N`água” (In the water) completely recorded in a tub, water noises interact and modulate sounds of pans, dishes, and bottles. In opposition to that one, emerges: “Seca” (Drought), when distant voices from the northeast of Brazil and a Didjeridoo (aboriginal instrument) mix with noises similar to several ploughs which capture the rhythm in the sands of the dryest area in Brazil. In “Pandeirata“ Marcos Suzano, Alessandra Belloni and Siri himself form a trio of tambourine players, where they accompany a song in a italian dialect of Alessandra, and then march to a emotional contrast between the immediatism of the percussion and the sweet melancoly of a chord arrangement.
In tracks as “Luzia Dheli” and “Bangladesh“ a sound sincretism increase the heat and spice it up, where Siri plays almost all instruments. In the first track, something like “Indian baião”, tabla, woodo, snare, triangle, and guitarr (played with a pen as if it were a cello) dance amid echos and distant voices. In “Bangladesh”, one of the compositions of highest impact, is a true “ethnic saga “performed by three capoeira berimbaus, joining a maracatu - drum’n bass in snare, alfaias, congas and eletric bass, that soars the emotion when a theme reappears in the violin, taking off to the apotheotic return of the chord orchestra.
In the only two more traditionalist formations of the CD we still can find interesting solutions. In “Gretch“ vibraphone, organ, bass, drums, and talking drum get together in a ludic athmosphere, a combination of a spy Movie track of the 70´s, with eletronic music. The highlights are the devilish improvisation of Jotinha Moraes.
In “Homenagem ao mestre“, to the strange polirhythm between a piano played by six hands and clappings, and then drums and contrabass are put together. Before long a gloomier and oniric environment emerges, where a jongo played with african drums is a sign for the coming of Darcy´s voice, providing a bridge to “Caxambu“. Here the story of the jongo is told and sung in na imprivised way by the voice of the late Master Darcy, which is considered the last mentor of this rhytm in Brazil as well as his wife Dona Sú. This recording is above all an important record of the musician just before his death. Accompanying congas performed by Master Darcy and Siri, an accordion join the group cheering the batuque up. It´s one of the strongest and most emotional tracks, even more if we consider the initial curious report made by Dona Sú, who, refering to the Master as a premonition, celebrates “In the end of the tunnel that will be a light to you“.
The last track “Trombada“ reintroduce amid traffic sounds and a tambourine, the amazing “Urban trombones“. A heavy batuque emerges dancing a maxixe until the comeback of the Volkswagen “Beetle“ takes us to other rhytms. As it must be “everyting ends in samba“, finally all of them go their separate ways but in a very good mood, close to the dying engine, responsible to this delicious trip along 10 original tracks of Siri.
”The CD Siri“ is milimetrically elaborated and produced en every single detail.Even the beautiful and elegant cover in P.B., was idealized and projected over a year by the photographer Deborah Engel, and is an example of dedication and criterion in the choice of the image as well as the selection of each sound of the CD. Its universal character is a work you can listen without interruption, and when you least expect you are back to the first track, the trip begins all over again.
